If you are an Aries, you have a natural alignment to red stones, such as: red jasper, ruby, bloodstone, coral, and garnet. Diamonds, gold, and steel are some of the secondary stones and metals which also support your vigor, vitality, and dynamic personality. But for those times when your Mars energy becomes overpowering, you may find that rose quartz helps to soften the hard edges of competitiveness and ambition.

Azurite will assist you in lifting your perspective from the temporal self to the unconditionally loving, universal Self. And the apache tear (obsidian) will cool your restive energies and help you to relax, meditate or even sleep during those times when relaxation may elude you. If there are times when you are feeling restricted by outside events or others, try the emerald, green beryl, green tourmaline or green fluorite to bring you balance as well as the ability to push through the barriers to your growth.

April Birth Flower – Daisy

Daisies are associated with innocence. The gerbera daisy has large colorful blooms, which has made it a favorite with flower lovers.

The birth flower for those born in January is the well-loved carnation. It promises a life of variety and empowers them with the quality of courage.

The birthstone for those born under the Sign of Capricorn (December 22 – January 21) is the Garnet.

Garnets come in various red shades, the deepest so dark it is near-black to the naked eye, the palest a transparent pink. Red-green garnets are rare and highly prized. Emblematic of constancy and fidelity, the garnet is true, too, to the Capricorn instinct to be always rational yet faithful and devoted either to cause, religion, loved one or any focus of attention of their judicious minds and hearts.

Not surprisingly, garnets have an honourable and romantic reputation in legend and history. Noah’s Ark was said to be illuminated by a finely chiseled garnet. The fourth Heaven of the Koran (the sacred scripture of Islam, believe by orthodox Muslims to contain revelations made by Allah to Mohamed) was said to be made of garnets. To honour his marriage and his new Queen, the British monarch, George III, presented his wedding guests with garnets set in gold and inscribed George and Charlotte united in 1761.

Garnets were also believed to possess healing powers. The yellow variety was said to cure jaundice. Red gems were prescribed to relieve fever and depression. Medieval Christian Crusaders believed garnets afforded protection against wounds and other misfortunes.

Chinese Years

According to the ancient Chinese system of astrology, your life and character are shaped by the particular year in which you were born, not by the days and months.

Under the Chinese astrological system, each year falls within one of the twelve heavenly constellations or Mansions. These are named for the characteristics they share with twelve of the creatures which roam the Earth below. The Twelve Animals by which the Chinese identify each of these Heavenly Mansions are the Dragon. Snake, Horse, Sheep or Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Boar, Rat, Buffalo or Ox, Tiger, and Rabbit or Hare.

As the planet Jupiter travels through its twelve-year circuits of the Sun, it passes through one of these twelve Mansions each year. Those born in that year, withing the shelter of that Mansion, will share its characteristics and its fortunes.

The Year of The Tiger

Based on the Chinese Horoscope 2010 is the Year of the Tiger. As well, any person born in the years: 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 or 2010 are all Tigers. The mystic symbolism associated with the Tiger is ‘Awakening of Life’.
Those born under the influence of the Tiger, are considered to have enormous talents for making money and every likelihood of material success. The Chines Malay God of Wealth is sometimes portrayed mounted upon a tiger.

Tigers have long been an emblem of bravery and ferocity. If others come under their protection, then those people will have every cause to feel safe from other earthly predators. As the poet William Blake said:

“Tiger, tiger burning bright … Did he who made the Lamb, make thee?”

Those born under this Sign often strike other people as far too intense, dynamite in fact. Then on days when Tiger people are presenting a cool front they can be easily misunderstood as uppity, standoffish and unfriendly.

Either way, others learn quickly to approach Tiger people with caution. The usually magnificently handsome men and women born as children to the Tiger are not only dominating but highly critical of those who can’t match their stern intelligence or explosive energy.

Courageous and adventurous, if you are born in the Heavenly House of the Tiger, then you revel in risk as others do in a warm bath. Chinese gambling dens use tigers as a symbol to advertise their establishments. Highflyers and hard players, rebellious to all authority if they’re in the mood, people born in a Year of the Tiger love to live life right ‘on the edge’. If you are one, be warned; even those with their namesake’s feline grace and surefooted sense of balance must stumble at times.

It you are born to the Heavenly Mansion of the Tiger, there will be days when you’ll find you agree with those who believe that life is not meant to be easy. In fact, you are often unlucky in love. Lucky at cards, unlucky at love as the saying goes.

Tiger people will have better luck in life as well as in love if they manage to fall for partners born in a Year of the Dragon, the Dog, and the Horse. They should be wary of adding to their bad luck in every way if they form liaisons with anyone born in the Years of the Monkey or the Snake.

There is infinitely more to astrology than what you read in the newspapers. A true astrologer will take a subject’s date, time and place of birth and draw up a chart based on the exact positions of the planets in the zodiac at that time. This used to take a few hours with a calculator, astronomical tables and logarithms. Now, with computers and a decent astrological program, it can be done in seconds. And not just for individuals.

Business astrology is where an astrological chart is drawn up based on the date, time and place of a company’s formation, and transits (current or future planetary positions) are evaluated in relation to the chart. With this information an astrologer can help a company in it’s marketing strategy and work out the trends of what is likely to happen. Banks and financial institutions, for instance, are well known for using astrologers. To quote one of the great banking legends, J.P. Morgan, “Millionaires don’t believe in astrologers. Billionaires keep them on the payroll.”

From a scientific point of view there is statistical evidence to show that astrology does seem to work, although the evidence concentrates on astrological houses and the impact that certain planets and certain signs have on influences, but does not provide any answers as to how it actually works. There is, though, no shortage of theories.

The first theory is based on magnetic or gravitational force. It is known that the sun and the moon affect the tides and the reactions of animals. It is also known that sunspot activity and the positions of the major planets such as Jupiter can affect radio reception. If a radio can be affected, surely the human brain, which is a mass of electronic impulses, could be too? Astronomers tend to dismiss the gravitational pull idea, particularly with the planets, as ther is less gravitational pull from these than from these than from a double-decker bus a few streets away.

The second theory is that the gods created the heavens above to mirror life on earth in a synchronistic way. The old alchemical adage “as above, so below”presents people as a complicated galactic jigsaw with the movement in the skies above directly affecting the movement of individuals below.

The third theory is that astrology is purely a psychic ability. Casting the chart and looking at the positions of the planets, it is suggested, helps our mind to achieve a higher form of communication. Our psychic ability is using astrological charts, almost as a bit of a crutch, in the same way that clairvoyants use crystal balls, tea leaves, or Tarot cards to achieve the same ends.

I cannot give you an exact reason why astrology works to predict the future, but here is my humble opinion, for what it is worth.

All stars and planets have an electrical field and our bodies are able to pick up changes in those electrical fields. The counter argument is that they are too far away to have any influence on us. However, their light is energy and when that reaches us, maybe a little bit of their electrical or magnetic energy reaches us as well?

Or perhaps, it is as simple as there being a little bit of magic thrown in … what do you think?

In light and love .. Francesca

Scorpios are ruled by Mars, the symbol that represents this sign is the scorpion, and the element is water.

Key characteristics: A born survivor, freedom-loving, contradictory, unpredictable, and volatile.

While their passion for life makes Scorpios fascinating and disarming lovers, partners and friends, the sting in their tails is the love of freedom. Those born under the influence of Scorpio tend to chafe under any other influence. If not the maestro conducting the orchestra, then Scorpio is a soloist. Whatever their career choice, Scorpios are more inclined to excel when they’re not tied to a team. But to maintain their motivation they must be sure their purpose is valuable, must have plenty of stimulus and variety in their work, and trusted support staff. Scorpop people should select business partners who are good planners and organizers, for while Scorpios hold the big picture in view with no trouble at all, they tend to ignore details, all of which Scorpio may regard as minor.

Scorpios, tru to their namesake’s aptitude for survival, have a knack for making the best out of unfortunate situations. When either outgoing and energetic or quietly but seriously committed to a project, Scorpio people are also more than likely to make good circumstances even better, often to the point of excellence. In their business and personal lives, they are shrewd and observant with a keen eye for new trends and unexplored opportunities, profitable alternatives and by-ways, by-products and spin-offs.

Whether predominantly introverts or extroverts, and Scorpios can be either, they generally look at life as an exciting adventure and seek stimulus from many sources. So theirs is often a complex and demanding program, with Scorpio playing a major role in each of the many component parts of their lives.

Scorpio is probably the most intense sign of the zodiac because those born under the sign of Scorpio are most capable of change. They can be very complex. Everything they do is intense and full of passion. Scorpios have a quick, sharp mind and strong instinctual feelings, but, like scorpions with that sting in their tail, they are known to have a sharp tongue. Occasionally, they will say something at the wrong moment and appear too blunt.

Scorpios have a strong sense of understanding and sympathy for other people and are willing to listen to their problems and help sort them out. However, woe betide anyone that lets them down because they don’t easily forgive and forget.

Astrology’s birthplace was in Mesopotamia, now know as Iraq, and dates from the 3rd millennium B.C. This period was known as the Chaldean Empire and during that time the stars were studied to such an extent that Chaldea became synonymous with astrology. Babylonian priests recorded the movements of the planets, and astronomy and astrology were one and the same subject.

Gradually, characteristics were ascribed to the planets. It was noted that the planets followed a particular path around the ecliptic known as the zodiac. The term horoscope derives from the Greek hora meaning time and skopos meaning observer, and the oldest known observers date back to 412 B.C.

Astrology spread from Babylon to Egypt, where the Greek historian Herodotus wrote about the Egyptian astrologers, and from there on to Athens and to Rome. In fact, Caesar took Taurus as his emblem and Augustus had his silver coins stamped with his birth sign of Capricorn. The Roman imperial chariots in the stadium belonged to 12 different stables each bearing a zodiac sign, and each of the lanes was dedicated to one of the planets, as were the seven days of the week.

In around, AD 130 Claudius Ptolemaeus created the Ptolemaic system which held that the Earth was the centre of the universe and all the planets circled around it. He also wrote various volumes known as Astrologer’s Works.

As Christianity grew in the west, astrology fell into disrepute there, but not in the Arabic world. There astrology remained very important and Arab countries built many observatories. It is noteworthy that the crescent moon and star still figure in many Islamic flags.

Astrology eventually found its way back into Europe where it tended to be studied by academics and scientists such as Albertus Magnus (1200-1280) and his disciple, Thomas Aquinas. Astrology became very popular for the rich and famous and it was a rare sovereign who chose to rule without an astrologer’s advice.

If your sun rests in Virgo, you are very likely to be naturally drawn to browns, rusts, and oranges, both in fashion and in gemstones.

Your attention to detail is quite strong and at times can become excessive. You set high standards for yourself, and can be quite rigid at times, giving you a tendency to be over critical on occasion.

When you become aware of those traits surfacing it is best to minimize your exposure to brown stone groupings in general, and specifically to smokey quartz.

Yellow stones, such as citrine, yellow topaz and amber can help lighten your attitude, add enthusiasm, and assist you in looking at a broader picture, while still keeping you connected with your Mercurial mind.

Unless you have other significant planets in Scorpio, Sagittarius, or Pieces in your birth chart, it is unlikely that you will be drawn to the purple gemstones such as; amethyst, purple tourmaline or sugalite. But, give them a try for yourself, and let your instincts guide you. These colours will satisfy your need for form, yet they will also help lift your focus from the earth plane to the mystical laws of the universe.

For all you Virgo’s out there … I would love to hear your comments.

How has colour impacted your life or your mood on occasion?
