The Tarot is a spiritual language that reveals the soul. In earthly life the Creator speaks to all of us through numbers and words that produce vision. The Tarot draws its images and symbols from the visionary language of the Torah and the Cabala. Through understanding this language, one can begin to interpret not only the cards in a Tarot deck but also the cards dealt to us through life.
The Tarot cards do not speak with a harsh voice. The voice is always gentle and full of meaning. There is no right or wrong in the Tarot; there is only the striving for a consistent message.
Intention and Freedom of Choice in The Tarot
Freedom of choice is found through one’s intention. The mind exercises freedom of choice by considering the reasons for one’s actions; the heart expresses freedom of choice through the emotions of love and fear. Through the collaboration of head and heart, the distillation of the soul’s intentions struggles through the physical body, labours, then gives birth to an action.
Freedom of choice exists only in this physical realm. In the spirit world the light of creation is too powerful and obvious to allow one to go against the will of the Creator. Only here, in this dark world, shielded from the divine light, are we able to choose between good and bad. This freedom of choice must never be tampered with by making a prediction when using a spiritual medium like the Tarot.
When doing a Tarot reading it is important for the reader to understand that the Tarot is a spiritual language meant to transmit a message from the soul. The person whose cards are being read is particularly sensitive and vulnerable at the time of the reading. It is essential that the reader not restrict a person’s free will through his or her words. Predicting the future is a blatant disrespect of the delicate human spirit, and defies the underlying purpose of the Tarot; which is to help us clarify intention, not impose it.
